As we create new products and learn better ways to communicate with our consumers, sometimes its beneficial to look at our boxes and make some updates. I was recently given the opportunity to lead an initiative where we established new guidelines for our retail toilet labels, improving some aspects of our previous design.

 

The priority was clarity for the consumer. We recognize some of our products have very minor details that make a big difference. By highlighting those three key differences at the top of the label – bowl height, shape and color – we make it a little easier for a consumer to compare products of the same family. Additionally, we enlarged the features and benefits of our products for better visibility and legibility. We also selected a simplified single room environment for a cohesive aisle versus different backgrounds for different price tiers.

 

The result was a clean design, with the flexibility to scale to both our L-shape and standard box configurations, and also adjust to our diverse family of products. The modular feature boxes allow us to add and remove icons depending on the simplicity or complexity of the toilet in question. Most impressively, by working closely with major retailers, we were able to come up with a design that satisfied everyone.
